What do I need to bring to practice?
Firstly, don't be intimidated. We are a team ranging in skill from absolute beginners to veterans. Even if you are not interested in playing games, you can still show up for practice for other reasons (getting into shape, socializing, etc.). All you need for a practice is the following:

  • Water
  • Mouthguard
  • Cleats - Tennis shoes generally do not have enough grip. Also, your cleats may not have a point at the tip. Soccer cleats are fine. Don't buy track cleats or football cleats.
  • Knee-high "Soccer" Socks
  • Exercise clothes - Tight is preferable to loose clothing. Bring something that can withstand a little wear and tear. For a game, a uniform (jersey and shorts) will be provided.

How can I participate in a game?
Games are usually fun and exciting. You do not have to play if you are not comfortable, but when you decide to play, you will have the guidance of your team members. Usually, we have the third half (party time) right after the game, so at least come out for the beer...
Before you play, however, you will have to be CIPed. CIPping is a process where you register with the USA Rugby Union, pay a nominal fee, and bring a health card and medical waiver to the captain before the game. It is not a scary process, but this will insure that the Kodiaks, USA Rugby, and you are treated fairly in case of an accident (best to be prepared). The detailed process is listed below:

  • Go to https://membership.usarugby.org/default.aspx
  • and CREATE/RENEW INDIVIDUAL MEMBERSHIP
  • Search for NC Kodiaks.
  • Pay your rugby fee ($35)
  • Print out this waiver.
  • Make a copy of your health insurance card.
  • Give your waiver, health insurance card, and an emergency contact number to the team captain sometime before the game.
Now that you have taken care of the boring part, enjoy the game. If you need a list of items you should bring to a game visit the What do I need to bring to practice? section.

How much are dues?
At this point in time, there are currently no dues. This may change in the future, but think of this as an extra incentive to play.
